Kate Monster

Today is the first time in weeks we haven’t had to be somewhere doing something at sometime. So Kate and Dad have just chilled out while Mama was sent off for a pedicure.

Pretty clear indication of the division of labor in this house:

Kate: Mama, can Bitty (Kate’s doll) have some Mac and Cheese?
Mama: Sure baby, you can cook it in your kitchen.
Kate: I’m not the cooker, I’m the Mama!

Kate: You know what?
Daddy: What?
Kate: I got you a surprise today!
Daddy: Oh! What is it?
Kate: I don’t know.

(it really was a surprise for both of us)

Kate: Here’s your medicine Daddy. (Hands over a small container of plastic beads.)
Dad (playing along, pretends to take a green one): Oh thanks, what kinda of owie does this medicine fix?
Kate: Uh, snakes eating you.
Dad: oh, how specific.

Kate and I went down to Houston for a super quick trip.  On the agenda, lots of visiting and the Houston Zoo.  She loved it!

There were sea lions.

And birds.

And crazy monkeys.  Wait, that’s Kate and Crystal.  :)

And elephants.  She particularly loved the lions.  She immediately told me that they were named Simba, Nala, Sarabi and Mufasa.  She’s a wee bit obsessed with the Lion King y’all.

She was so insistent that she get to ride the carousel.  Then she got up on it and wasn’t so sure.  Girl can turn on the smiles for the camera though.  :)  The Houston Zoo is totally awesome.  We’ll be back for sure.  :)

Kate: Can I play on the real big swing at the new park?
Me: No, you’re not big enough.
Kate: Oh, so when I’m old. Like Amanda.

Yeah, the 5 year old that is sooooo old. I think my beard just got a little more gray.

Kate, in a sing song voice: It’s a school-world after all…
Dad: I think you mean “It’s a small world after all…”
Kate: No, no, anything but that!

We went to Sweet Berry Farm last Thursday to pick some strawberries with our friends Libby and Will.  We had a blast!  It rained on us a bit, but we didn’t let that stop us.

Kate got a kick out of picking the strawberries.

She couldn’t quite figure out why I wouldn’t let her eat the strawberries while we were there.  I don’t blame her; they’re awesome!

She’s such a ham.  She knows that I like pictures of her running to the camera.  :)

Kate and Will were huge fans of the strawberry ice cream.  I don’t blame them!

Kate, while sitting at the dining room table playing Legos, leans back in her seat and looks over her latest creation.
“That looks amazing,” she says with a smile.

We stumbled upon a field trip at the Zilker Nature and Science Center and stole borrowed one of their nets to explore in the stream. Next time we’ll bring some crocs so we can explore properly.

Somebody got a bounce house. Somebody is thrilled.
